Written In Our Hearts

who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them. (Romans 2:15)

Ever been confronted with this question? What about those people who have never heard about Jesus and died? Do they have a chance of eternal life? Here is the answer. God’s word tells us that the law is written in our hearts. Our own heart will tell us if we are doing something wrong and all of us have a chance in this life to seek out our Creator. God can reveal Himself to us without us ever being shown who He is by anyone else. It is our joy and privilege to demonstrate who Jesus is to others, but to those who have never heard about Jesus, God extends His salvation to them through the longing that He has placed in all of us to worship and seek out our source of life. We were all created with a need in our soul to know God, that is why we have all at one time sought out something other than Jesus to satisfy our inner longings. Our seeking is proof that we were made to be dependent upon someone greater than ourselves to be in relationship with. When we exhaust all our efforts to satisfy that longing, we come to the realization that Jesus is truly the only One that can satisfy.

One example of this is in Muslim countries. There has been an outpouring of personal visitations to Muslim people by Jesus Himself. He has been visiting people and showing Himself to those who are crying out to know God in a way like never before. Muslims are being saved and accepting Jesus as He visits them even though they never knew Him previously. God will bring to Himself all who belong to Him. Romans 8:29 tells us this,”For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.”

Romans 2:15 also settles another myth that as Christians, we don’t need to obey God after we accept Jesus. This simply isn’t true. If God no longer requires obedience to His commandments, then why did He write them on our hearts? We are not bound by the law because Jesus made a way for redemption through His blood, but that does not make God’s commands obsolete. Adultery is still sin, lying is still sin, to worship other gods is still sin in God’s eyes.

We now have power through the Holy Spirit to overcome and we have a Deliverer who can free us from the demonic realm that would push us to sin. God has made a way where there was none, a road in the wilderness, but it is up to us to travel that road with Him. When we walk in obedience to God’s ways, we walk in the blessings and favor of God. Make right decisions and enjoy living in the blessings of God. We know right from wrong by what is written in our hearts!
