The Value Of Diligence

Cast your bread upon the waters for you will find it after many days. (Eccl. 11:1)
Don’t grow weary in well doing. This is a lesson to be paid attention to. In our culture of fast food, drive thru banking and get it done quick lifestyles, we have lost the fruit of patience. When I was addicted to drugs, I needed an instant high to temporarily satisfy me which led to deeper despair. Instead of bringing my cares to the Lord, I listened to the enemy’s lies and self medicated. When Jesus delivered me from addiction, He taught me to do right out of pleasing Him, not for reward. In obedience to Christ, I learned that He had my best interest at heart because He allowed me to understand the sowing and reaping process on the side of good for the first time. When you sow something, it takes time to grow, then it must be harvested.

Everything we do in this life has a choice attached to it. That choice has a consequence attached to it for either good or evil. Those consequences are fruits. When we give something to God, we first make the choice to do so then we put action to that choice, then in time we reap the fruit of that choice. The reaping process is not always quick. Certain things take time to develop. One of the most precious gifts is life and that gift has a sowing and reaping process. When a man and a woman want a child they first make a choice, then plant the seed for that baby to grow, then there is a 9 month waiting period. That 9 months are the many days stated in Ecclesiastes.

Do not grow weary in well doing. Keep planting good seed in good soil. Keep giving into God’s kingdom. Keep doing good. Your harvest is coming and it will be bountiful! First you must cast your bread on the waters and after many days you will find it. Learn the value of diligence!

There are so many examples in the Bible of people who sowed and then reaped, some reaped good and some reaped bad. The thing we need to keep in mind is that when we make mistakes and sow bad seed that God, out of His mercy, many times removes consequences. Because of what Jesus has done for us, we have great mercy shown to us. I can look back at my past and see many horrible choices that were made with terrible consequences, yet I’ve seen God lessen consequences and in some cases, remove them. I’ve also seen that with the consequences that are still in motion, that Jesus’ presence is ever so powerful to walk with me through those consequences .

Be at peace today knowing that God knows you are human. You will make mistakes! The main point in this is that we learn from our mistakes sooner rather than later. Thank God for His great kindness, love and grace!

Cast your bread on the water today. Do something kind to someone, be a generous and giving person and be forgiving to yourself as well as others and watch God move on your behalf! Diligence has great value!
