Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic,”Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” (Matthew 9:2)
At the time that this event took place, Jesus had not yet shed His blood for us, so there was no removing of our sins yet. Forgiveness was granted by Jesus to the man personally, not yet to the entire world through Him dying on the cross. It is evident that the man’s sins were causing a spirit of infirmity to cause sickness in his body. Through Jesus forgiving him, the legal rights that the unclean spirit had to curse him with sickness was broken, the demon fled and the man was made whole.
The advantage we have under the new covenant is that we are already forgiven of our sins, what we need to do to receive our healing and deliverance is to confess our sins. For if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). To be cleansed from unrighteousness is to be freed from any darkness or stain which is caused by the demonic realm.
Because of Jesus, we have all that we need, everything that pertains to life and godliness. When we forgive others, we release them as Jesus released this man from his bondage. The enemy loves to speak to our mind and tell us to hold onto bitterness and unforgiveness towards others, in doing so, we hold the other person in bondage and we cause bondage on ourselves. Forgive one another that you may be healed.
Oh, the power of forgiveness.
