But His Word was in my heart like a burning fire, shut up in my bones. (Jeremiah 20:9)
Thy word O Lord have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you. When God’s word is in your heart, then that is what you’ll speak. What the heart is full of the mouth speaks. God’s word feels like fire when it is within you. When you know the One and only Truth, it is such an honor and a humbling experience. Do not keep this fire contained but rather spread it to a dying and chaotic world. We are not in this life for comfort and ease, we are in this life to be a witness and a light in darkness, to expand the influence of the kingdom of God.
I look back to the years I spent in the world and remember how devoted I was to being with friends and staying out at the clubs night after night and making sure I had money to buy drugs and alcohol. That was a type of fire for the world and the things it had to offer. I always suited up and showed up for sin. Now that my life is being transformed, the fire that is within me produces life, not death. It produces peace and not torment. The fire that is dwelling in our inner man makes inlets and roads for the unsaved to walk on to meet Christ through the life that we live.
Our lives are examples of the changing power of Jesus’ love. The very presence of God’s people in the world should usher in holy conviction to the lost, and a way to salvation through Jesus Christ. The fire of God convicts, it heals, it restores and it purifies.
Keep God’s word in your heart and continue being a light to a lost and dying world and see the power of God move mightily in and through you. God’s love for people surpasses all, and our love for people should follow His. The fire of God demonstrates His mighty love as we focus our attention and service on the King of kings!
The enemy goes out of his way to bring distraction to our lives so that we get caught up in what is taking place in and around us. When this happens we take no interest in the lives of others. Recognize the enemy’s tactics and cast off all that is hindering you through giving your full attention to Jesus. Whatever we are focused on becomes magnified. This is why God’s word says, “Oh magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt His name together.” What the Psalmist is saying is, focus on your God, not your issues! Magnify God by paying attention to Him. If we pay our attention to sickness and pain, then sickness and pain will be magnified. This is easier said than done, but it is possible to do through asking the Holy Spirit to help us.
Bring your mind back to what God says about your situation. Bring your mind back to God’s Word that is within you and you will be like a burning fire!
