I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will guide you with my eye. (Psalm 32:8).
Everyone of us needs instruction throughout this life. Without instruction we continue on, not knowing how to get to where the Lord ordained us to end up. In order for us to receive the guidance of God Himself, we must intimately know Him. The Lord tells us that He will guide us with His eye. In order for His eye to guide us we must be close enough to Him to look into it. Intimacy with the Lord grows as we acknowledge Him in all our ways. To acknowledge Him is to recognize His importance in everything that pertains to our life. Prayer is one way to engage in intimacy with the Lord. Prayer is not necessarily a set time of certain words in uniformity. Prayer is communicating with the Lord throughout the day in our words and thoughts. If we box prayer into what others define as prayer, we find ourselves falling short because we have failed to meet the expectations of those who in force their definition of prayer.
One of the beauties of knowing God is experiencing how He knows us all individually and each individual relationship between us and the Lord is similar yet very unique. I know Him in a way that others don’t while others know Him in a way that may be different than I do. God knows how to reach us as individuals. When we start to put on others what the Lord requires of us, we become “religious” in a bad way, not a good one. God expects certain things from us and He knows what we all have come out of. I have seen many mature Christians force others to pray in the manner that they pray and push them to pray for a certain amount of time. That is not God. God never forces or pushes, He draws and attracts us to Him through His love. When we encounter His love, we then hear from Him where He wants us to go and what He wants us to do. It is in a love relationship with Him that we hear and understand His guidance and instruction.
God says to you this day, “I will guide you to where I want you to be, do not fear for the future or hold on to regrets of the past. You are in My hands and I will make the crooked ways straight. I am the Lord your God and I love you. Be at peace, I will guide you.”
