Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments. (Psalm 112:1)
The topic of fearing God is taboo to many Christians in this time that we are living. Fear of God is looked at as anti-Christ. It is perceived as void of love when in reality it compliments loving God. The fear of the Lord which God’s word speaks of, is total awe and reverence, it is not a spirit of fear. Fear from the enemy keeps us in torment and bondage. The fear of the Lord ushers in holiness, safety and wisdom.
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but that does not mean we should no longer fear God.
The fear of God is an inward awe of who God is and a reverence toward His word and the laws that govern the natural and spirit realm. If we do not believe in the law of gravity but walk off the empire state building, does that mean we will not die? No! The law is still in effect. If there is no fear or reverence of that law, it doesn’t make it of no effect. It is the same with God and the rules He has set in motion to govern us on this earth to protect us. If we bow before other gods, even though God still loves us, we will pay consequences. If we disobey and dishonor our parents, there is a consequence. Many do not believe that God’s commands still need to be applied today because of His grace, that is not true. God’s commands keep a boundary around us that protect us from the enemy harming us. When we walk in disobedience to God’s commands, we open ourselves up to attacks which God never intended us to walk through.The dietary rules and sacrificial laws are null and void under the New Covenant however God’s moral code still stands strong as a way to live, not a way to be saved. Jesus is the only One who can save us.
What it comes down to is revering God. In part, the fear of God allows transformation in our lives and builds parameters around our whole self to protect us against horrible consequences and intense attacks from Satan. Fear God all you who serve Him. Resist a spirit of fear, but a holy reverent fear of God, embrace. The fear of God is the foundation for wisdom! (Psalm 111:10)
