Thus says the Lord,”Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.” (Jeremiah 21:8)
God lays it all out here. He gives us free will to choose life or death, blessings or curses. My whole life I had made poor choices and the fruit of those choices were HIV, drug addiction, homelessness and mental torment. My life was a mess and I was near death. My mental state was so far gone that I was put in a mental hospital in a padded room. How did this happen? Why did this happen? It was the fruit of sin and the fruition of a generational curse enhanced by my actions to perpetuate it. The wages of sin is death and I had earned those wages.
Through the intervention of God in my life after crying out to Him when I had lost everything, I learned a life changing principle. The laws by which we are either blessed or cursed. Not all blessings are automatic just because one becomes a Christian and on the other hand there are people who are headed straight to hell, however in this life they are blessed in a tremendous way. Why is that? Lets look at Deuteronomy 28:15,”But if you refuse to listen to the LORD your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overwhelm you.”
Clearly through disobedience in our own lives or in the lives of our ancestors, we pay a price for our disobedience towards God in this lifetime. If we know Jesus, we have salvation, but if we refuse to repent for our actions and take the grace of God for granted, then we open the door up in our lives for curses to take action. The great thing is that Jesus became a curse for us so that we would not have to live under the power of these curses. We have a way of ridding of the curses on us and our family line through repenting of sin, renouncing it and receiving the forgiveness of our sins and applying what Jesus did for us to keep us from living in that sin. The scripture that says if we confess our sins, Jesus is faithful to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Unrighteousness in this verse is referring to the demonic realm that attaches itself to us when we live in sin. The demonic realm brings curses to fruition. We have the choice to be cleansed if we desire so. If we choose to remain in sin, then we give Satan the right to bring havoc in our lives. God does not force His ways or His protection on us, we must remain in His care by obeying His word. Jesus said,”If you love Me, you will obey Me and keep My commands.
God is doing great and mighty works in this day and time. Be part of what He is doing by first repenting and walk under the blessing and not the curse. The choice is ours! This day choose life that it may be well with you. Life is all about choices. Make good ones!
