But when he saw that the wind was boisterous he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out saying, “Lord save me!” (Matthew 14:31)
Peter was walking on water with Jesus. It was when Peter focused on the storm and took his focus off of Jesus that he started to sink. What a perfect example for us. Experience teaches us that when we focus on what needs to be healed and not the Healer, we sink. When we focus on what we need to be delivered from and not the Deliverer, we sink. When we focus on the outcome and not the One who brings us through the problem, we find ourselves under water. When the martyrs of the Bible where killed, they did not have their minds on their death, but rather on the One who gave them life. Our own mind is our greatest enemy and that is why we must rule over it through taking on the mind of Christ.
As we walk this walk of faith out together with Jesus, we must remember always to keep our focus on Him. The enemy will always bring issues and storms to distract us from focusing on Jesus. Satan is great at trying to distract us so that we are no longer paying attention to what God would have us do. Pay no mind to the devil and give your all to the Savior. Jesus will carry you through, He will cause you to walk on water in the midst of the storms of life! The key is making Jesus the center of the thoughts and how we do that is by winning the battle of our minds.
