But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.( Galatians 5:22)
If a tree is doing what it is intended to do, it will be known by the fruit that it grows. Jesus Himself cursed the fig tree and it died because it was not bearing fruit when fruit was expected from it.
We as well are intended to bear fruit for God in the Spirit. This is a perfect marker to let us know if we are walking in the Spirit or in the flesh. If we are void of love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness or self control, then we need to nourish our tree with God’s Spirit. We are never going to be perfect while here on this earth, however if we are in Christ we are being perfected which means we should be growing into looking like Jesus looked.
When Jesus was on this earth, He set an example of how we should act, talk, live and love. He demonstrated what it looked like to be a child of the Father. 1 John 3:2 says,“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see Him as He is.
We can see through this verse that we are not yet perfect but when we see Him face to face, we shall be as He is which is perfect! We no longer are slaves to sin and we can have control over our appetites, cravings and desires. We no longer need to serve and feed our flesh. There is so much freedom that comes with His delivering power. The greatest freedom is to experience the love of God and to bear the fruit of the Spirit and to serve Him being freed from bondage!
