while we do not look on the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)
A truth is revealed here that seems odd to the non spiritual. We are told not to look on the things that surround us everyday, but we are told to look on the things that we can not see. How can one see if it is unseen? Through God’s word we learn of the things of the Spirit. As we learn these things, our spirit grabs hold of them and changes our focus from this world to the heavenly realm. What we see everyday around us is fading and dying for it is temporal, but the life we have in Jesus is eternal!
So many times our lives are consumed with money, houses, cars, clothes, vacations and self pampering. While there is nothing wrong with these things, there is something wrong with being consumed by them. We are to live a modest life in Christ but have wealth to be used by God for His glory, and in that, we are blessed.
Our callings may be different. Some may be called to the streets to bring salvation, others may be called to be pastors or evangelists. Some may be called to stand before kings and presidents. No matter what the calling is, we all have the same destination, heaven. With all we will walk through in life whether it be good or bad, tough or easy, if we are living for Jesus, it is all worth it in the end!
If you find yourself more concerned with material possessions and you are consumed with the things of this world, cry out to the Father and ask Him to change your heart. Ask Him to give you the desire to want what He wants. Ask Him to open your eyes to see what He would have you see and for proper focus on what God looks at as important. Look to Jesus the author and finisher of your faith and keep your eye on the prize!
