But I keep my body under control and bring it into subjection.
(1 Corinthians 9:27)
We all have things that our flesh desires to do or say that are not in line with God’s word. The flesh craves so much that would hinder us and that is why we must crucify it daily. It is not the desire that is sin, but the giving into it. The flesh is one of our greatest enemies as well as Satan. We must starve the flesh in order to keep it from getting it’s way.
It is no longer us that lives but Christ in us. God’s Word tells us of this war against our flesh in Romans 7:15-16,”The things that I want to do, I don’t do and the things that I ought not do, I do. Who will deliver me from this body?” The answer is Jesus! We have a friend in Him and He knows all our temptations and was also tempted but He sinned not. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. And when we do sin, we have an Advocate to the Father and if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Even in the natural, if we don’t use self control, which is a fruit of the Spirit, we will gain weight and allow disease in our bodies. We are expected to take care of this temple. When the enemy tempts you, or the flesh craves something that is against God, practice self control through the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within you and you will gain a crown. James 1:12 says that when we overcome temptation, we receive a crown of life!
The things that had us once bound are now simply temptations that have become fleeting. The more we war against them, the less power they will have over us. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you in your fight for freedom and use self control.
The Holy Spirit is your guide on the inside!
