I cling to You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8
A king or person of high rank who places someone on their right hand or seated at his right side, gives him equal honor and power with himself and establishes that person as possessing equal dignity and authority. Paul writes about this concerning Jesus in the book of Ephesians. “And what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us, the ones believing according to the working of His mighty strength which He worked in Christ in raising Him from the dead, and He seated Him at His right hand in the heavenlies, far above all principality and authority and power and dominion, and every name being named, not only in this world, but also in the coming age” (Ephesians 1:19-21).
When we look back to what King David speaks in Psalm 63 we can see that David understood the significance of the right hand of God. David knew this because God established David as king of Israel and David knew the honor of anyone who sat at his right side. David knew that God’s right hand was the universal symbol of God’s authority, dominion and power and he believed that the very right hand of God upheld him through every heartache, every pain and every suffering in this life.
That very same right hand that thousands of years ago upheld King David upholds you and I. Our part in this is the same that David had which is to recognize God’s right hand in our lives and to proclaim that God’s right hand upholds us through all of life’s storms!
No matter what you are facing in your life, your true comfort is found in being upheld by God’s right hand. Believe God in spite of what everything else says. The voices that we contend with in this life will always be opposing the voice of God. We need to know that because there are so many voices fighting for our attention that its not so much what we hear that is important, but rather what we listen to. Hearing just means we acknowledge that something is being said while listening has more to do with obeying what we hear.
Cling to Jesus as His right hand upholds you!
