“Save me, O God, For the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, And the floods overwhelm me.” (Psalm 69:1-2) In this Psalm, we hear David crying out to God. He is not literally in a flood but rather he was being attacked and threatened by the words of the enemy. There was an attack from the enemy to destroy David’s life. Every one of us at some time in our lives will encounter experiences where we feel as though we are in a pit. In the case of Joseph, the lies of Potiphar’s wife caused Joseph to be imprisoned, just like the lies of Satan can cause us to be imprisoned if we accept those lies. They can be lies of accusation, lies of hopelessness, and even lies that feel as if they are truth. The key to unlocking the door of your prison is to recognize the lie from the truth! We can look back to the garden of Eden and see that Satan’s tactics have been to make mankind believe the opposite of what God has said. Before we are tempted to sin, the devil first wants us to doubt God’s word to us. He did it with Eve and he is still doing it today! When we find ourselves in a pit, the enemy will force us to focus on our situation, sickness or weakness and bring us to a point of hopelessness, then he comes in for the kill. The key to getting out of the pit is recognizing the tactics of the enemy and believing God in spite of what we feel. God’s word says to walk by faith not by sight, in other words, we are called to live by having blind trust in God and refuse to live according to what our emotions and feelings are telling us. Easier said than done but we have to start somewhere. Satan will not only lie to you, but he will muster up evidence to support the lies he whispers in your ears. He will tell you that the natural progression to your disease is death because medical science has proven that. He will tell you,” you are for sure going to be defeated just like your father and grandfather were.” He will tell you, your end is near because God has left you. During these times of what looks real, remember this: the disease you are fighting is subject to Jesus, not medical science! The defeat that your family has experienced does not own you because Jesus has given you the power to break those generational curses! Your end is not an end at all because your times are in the hand of God and Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you! Counter Satan’s lies with God’s truth.
