He restores my soul. (Psalm 23:3)
Wow. How alive and real is God’s word. I remember years ago when psychiatrists told me that I was suffering from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia and many other mental disorders. I battled these for over 30 years. When I think of how God kept me from killing myself while going through these battles, I am so grateful. I had learned that these mental disorders were not just illnesses but strongholds in my life that had entered my mind to destroy me. With the world offering many many drugs that I was taking to cope with these “disorders”, nothing helped me. I had to come to the truth that even though I loved God, there were evil forces that were controlling my mind. I had tried everything to no avail. Hopeless and suicidal, God met me at my need. God taught me that the mind is part of the soul and that He was in the business of restoring souls. I had lots of work to do before being delivered. I had to examine myself and get right with God and close the doors to the enemy that I had opened through sin. When I did what I needed to, God set me free from every mental disorder and today I need no medication for my mind. I have the mind of Christ and I am prospering and being restored in health as my soul prospers. You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free!
In order for our soul to be restored we need God’s truths, His grace and His timing. When we walk outside the parameters of the safety of God’s word we open ourselves up to the enemy. When we give evil a foothold it quickly will turn into a stronghold that needs to be torn down. Jesus purchased freedom for our minds when the crown of thorns was thrusted upon His head. Our part is to receive that freedom through faith. Freedom is never free. It was purchased for us but there will always be a war waged by the enemy so that we do not walk in that freedom. The devil’s greatest fear is our freedom because a free and whole person who loves Jesus is the what the enemy tries to avoid at all costs. If you are experiencing a lack in freedom in your mind, ask God to reveal what it is that needs to be dealt with. Ask Him to give you strategies to counter the enemy and take back what is rightfully yours because of what Jesus has accomplished for you. The restoration of your soul is at hand!
