Do not let the sun go down on your anger. (Ephesians 4:26)
God has given us emotions which are part of our soul. Anger is an emotion. Anger that is held onto becomes a root of bitterness which has the power to make us physically sick and also is a doorway to unclean spirits. This is why the word of God tells us, do not let the sun go down on your anger. Jesus is our Deliverer and He desires to free us from any and all bondage, but we need to be in agreement with Him by casting those things out of our lives. One of the greatest ways to have victory over anger is to refuse it!
The enemy loves to come in very subtly and without notice. Why he does this is because he knows if we don’t notice him, he will stay in darkness and not be fought. The demonic realm hates the Light of Christ. When the Light is present, darkness has to flee. When I was molested as a little boy, I was filled with anger and rage. I did not have the tools to deal with it and I never released what I was feeling, as a result by the age of 14 I started to develop arthritis in my spine and had back problems. I was the one who was wronged but yet my violation of God’s law caused my bones to start to rot. God’s word says that anger is like rot to the bones. This is why the enemy would love to cause things to happen to us to place us in a position where it is difficult to forgive. Satan loves it when we hold onto anger and embrace bitterness. When we do that we open up spiritual gates to our lives and allow evil in. What comes in is disease and sorrow. Remember that forgiveness is a gift for us, it does not release the wrong party of the consequences of their actions against you, it releases the one forgiving from the bondage that unforgiveness causes.
Unconfessed anger leads to rage and rage is rooted with bitterness that causes a wicked deadly recipe for disaster. The great news is that Jesus gave us the freedom that He purchased for us on the cross. The first step to freedom is acknowledging the sin. Confess or admit the sin to God, ask Him for His help to love and then choose to forgive the person that wronged you. Forgiveness is a choice that is acted on not a feeling that is acquired. We forgive because we have been forgiven. Choose to walk away from anger and tell it to leave you in Jesus’ name. Experience the peace and power that comes when you get anger out of your life!
Do not let the sun go down on your anger. 🙂
