Call upon Me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you. (Psalm 50:15)
God never said we wouldn’t have a day of trouble, on the contrary, He tells us to call on Him in that day. There is a false concept that when we decide to live for Jesus that our troubles are over. How very wrong. When we switch from the kingdom of darkness to God’s Kingdom, the devil starts his attacks much greater because he lost someone who is now a threat to him. Remember this, God said to call on Him in your day of trouble but there is a victorious ending. He will deliver you! God is not like man that He should lie. God says to you this day, “I will deliver you!”
When I turned my back on drugs and sexual brokenness and total deprivation, the battle for my mind and life became much more intense. I battled through years of intense warfare to take back what was lost. Freedom is never free and a price for our freedom was paid on Calvary by Jesus. A great price was paid for our souls, the very Blood of God Himself!
We can search throughout God’s word and see how when His people called upon Him, He delivered them. It may not be in the timing that we think it should happen, but nevertheless, it happens! He did it for the Israelites at the crossing of the sea and we have a better covenant. He did it for Daniel in the lions den, and we have a better covenant, He did it for the three young Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace, and we have a better covenant. Let me say that once more, WE HAVE A BETTER COVENANT!
As we walk through this life, we need to have an anchor to be attached to. An anchor holds a ship in place so that the storms, waves and tides don’t shift it from its course. The anchor holds the ship firm so that it stays strong and stable no matter what waves or torrent may come. God’s word clearly tells us in Hebrews 6:19-20 that Jesus is our anchor in life. “19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, 20 where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”
If we have this hope, this anchor in Jesus, then obviously there will be storms, there will be waves, some small, some tidal. Life was never promised to be smooth sailing. John 16:33 tells us this,”These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
As we close out this past year, leave all the old ways, the bitterness, the defeats, the pains and sorrows behind. Start this New Year with a renewed mind, a loving heart and kind spirit. The only way a change can take place in our lives is if we allow it. Allow God’s Spirit to remove what needs to be removed and replace what needs to be replaced.
