Every Promise

Then Elijah said to Ahab,”Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of the abundance of rain.” (1 Kings 18:41)

At this time in history when the book of Kings was written, there was a famine in the land of Israel because of idol worship. The people’s hearts were turned back to God after Elijah destroyed the prohets of Baal and proved God once more through evidence of a consuming fire against Baal. The drought was ended by God and Elijah knew this by what he heard. Elijah’s ears were spiritually in tune to what God was saying before his eyes saw the evidence. The actual rain came later on and it started as a cloud the size of a man’s fist and then became a torent of rain.

This scenario is parallel to our own lives in that once we walk in obedience to God, we can start to hear from God better, to the point where our faith can arise to meet His promises to us. In the book of Kings, the issue of disobedience was idol worship. The prophets of Baal needed to be destroyed in order for the blessings of God to flow. Nothing has changed today. In order for the blessings of God to flow in our lives, all idol worship, all disobedience must be recognized and repented from. Idol worship today may look a little different. Instead of statues, we’ve replaced them with cars, homes or people. Instead of prophets of Baal, we have those who leed us away from God through false teaching and error. The look of things may have changed but the spirit behind it is the same, which is deception.

Ask God this day if anything needs to be confessed and repented from. First ask God for ears to hear so that your faith can rise up to see all of His promises come to pass in your life. You will see your promises at first like the size of a man’s fist and that sight will then bring your faith to an even higher level. Soon after, the fulfilment of His every promise will come to pass, as you walk in obedience to His will and ways.

Put your spiritual ears on and listen to the voice of the Lord. He is waiting and excited to perform His word!
